Bali, well known
as a paradise island, a land of a thousand gods, thousand temples,
thousand dances, is
located at the Pacific Ocean, just below the equatorial line, on
latitude 8 degree south and longitude 115 degree east. The island
is considered to be the most attractive island to visitors. It is
estimated that more than 3.000.000 visitors a year from all round
the world. Most of them seek an understanding of a way of life that
is really unique.
As Bali is located just south of the equator and has a tropical
climate, conditions are hot and humid all year round. The average
temperature is around 32°C or 85°F, although it can get
considerably cooler in the more mountainous regions, where it
can reach as low as 10°C during the early hours of the morning.
The island only has two seasons, wet and dry. The wet season is
normally from November to April, the dry season from May to October.
The dry season is categorized by a constant breeze blowing over
the island, referred to during earlier centuries as the trade
winds. During the rainy season, while there might be days when
the rain never stops, for the most part showers are limited to
an hour or two during the morning or afternoon, with the rest
of the day being cloudy or sunny.
There are several festivals on Bali, most involving music, dance,
religion and art; all of which are held very close to the hearts
of the people. Two of the major festivals are Galungan and Nyepi.
Galungan is the major feast of Wuku
calendar. For ten days the Gods are said to visit the island
and mythical lion dogs prance between temples and villages in
celebration. The eve of Nyepi involves
the noisy banishment of lingering evil by using music
instrument such as gongs, drums, and flame torches. On
Nyepi, the whole of Bali is quiet.
Dance
is a part of Balinese life. This can be watched in every cultural
or religious activity. The most common and attractive dance are
Barong and Kecak.
The dances daily perform in several places around Ubud
or Batubulan. There are several other dances that could excite
you such as the Gambung, the Topeng, the Baris, and the Legong.
The most classical and exciting dance is the Gambuh, which is
very rare to perform. The other one is the Topeng, which is the
traditional masked dance. This dance is usually performed in ritual
ceremonies. The Baris which is known as the warrior's dance usually

The population of Bali is estimated 3,500,000 people who live
mostly at southern part of the island. The capital city of Bali's
province is Denpasar,
which is populated around 300,000. The second largest town is
Singaraja, which is located in the north. The most attractive
tourist areas are Kuta
beach, which is only 15 minutes drive from the International
Ngurah Rai Airport. Other places, such as Ubud,
